It happened at about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27 on Kings Ferry Road in the hamlet of Montrose in the town of Cortlandt.

An initial investigation by state police revealed a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Nadia Caterino, 32, of Cortlandt was traveling westbound on Kings Ferry Road, and attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Hunt Road.

Caterino failed to observe an eastbound 2016 Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by Matthew Hickey, 30, of Cortlandt, state police said. It appears Hickey laid the bike down in an attempt to avoid the collision, but was struck by the Grand Cherokee, according to state police.

Cortlandt EMS and the Montrose Fire Department were on scene attempting to provide lifesaving care, and transported Hickey to the Hudson Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the emergency room doctor.

The Troop K Collision Reconstruction Unit was also on scene to investigate.
